Check GIS

Check GIS GIS Assessment Service

Check GIS™ Services Background

GIS Management Consulting Services LLC offers agencies a comprehensive GIS program assessment called Check GIS™. This program provides a low-cost, template-based, but custom assessment of a GIS operation.

A Check GIS™ Assessment is offered for a flat $4950 fee. An assessment usually involves 5-8 hours of meeting time with the client and about 30 hours of consultant time to complete the assessment and report.

Check GIS™ Services Description

GIS Management Consulting Services will provide a Check GIS™ assessment for a client, usually the GIS Manager and key GIS team members and stakeholders. The assessment is conducted by Greg Babinski.

Deliverables

The standard elements to be conducted in an assessment include:

  • Initial review of existing documentation that describes the client’s GIS and the services and products that it delivers to end-users
  • High-level literature review for insights about peer GIS operations
  • GIS governance review – how does the client’s GIS engage with stakeholders and users?
  • GIS staffing analysis – What is the make-up of the client’s GIS team, and does it seem adequate for its responsibilities?
  • GIS funding analysis – is the funding adequate and are there any financial risks or sustainability issues.
  • Facilitated personal GMCM (Geospatial Management Competency Model) assessment – Does the client’s GIS team have any gaps in key management competencies?
  • Facilitated operational GISCMM (GIS Capability Maturity Model) assessment – This covers both GIS resources (data, software, technical infrastructure, staff) and GIS processes. What are the areas where the client’s GIS is strong and what are priority areas for investment and improvement?
  • SWOT analysis – What are the client’s GIS strengths, weaknesses, opportunities, and threats?
  • KPI review and development – Level 2 GIS ROI option – What financial benefits does the client’s GIS provide now, what are other key benefits, and what are key performance indicators that can be tracked into the future?
  • Marketing plan development – What is the client’s GIS vision and how can it further promote the adoption of GIS within the agency?
  • Summary report with recommendations
  • A slide deck, summarizing the report for presentation by the GIS team to key stakeholders.

These elements, as described above, will form the outline for the final Check GIS™ report.
